Activities Assistant

Accountabilities

All duties are subject to change at the discretion of the Managing Director.

  • Assist with Coaching Sessions: Help deliver activities sessions as planned with the Activities Leaders or Manager.  Sessions should be fun, interactive, and designed to help students practice their English through extracurricular activities.

  • Activities Equipment: To get all the equipment ready for the Activities Leaders, ensuring that in line with the Activities Plan they have all they have all the items required to run the activity.

  • Complete Risk Assessments: Read and complete any necessary risk assessments for your sessions. Ensure these are specific to your group, helping to ensure safety. Upload the completed assessments to the British Summer School database before leading a session.

  • Assist with Social Programmes: Help the Activities Manager run fun and engaging activities in a safe environment. Ensure activity equipment is well-maintained and stored properly after use.

  • Weekend Excursions: Take part in weekend trips, leading a group of students and following the excursion schedule and safety policies.

  • Be Aware of Medical Information: Make sure you are familiar with any medical, dietary, or allergy details for the students in your group. Take appropriate steps to keep students safe during activities or excursions.

  • Airport Transfers: Help welcome new students at the airport and assist returning students with departures. Ensure students are always supervised during transfers.

  • Supervise Boarding House: To help supervise students in the boarding house, making sure they follow house rules and treat the property with respect. Report any damage to the House Parent.

  • Mealtime and Break Supervision: Oversee students during mealtimes and breaks and assist with wake-up or lights-out routines with the House Parents.

  • Maintain Professional Boundaries: Always keep a professional relationship with students, ensuring you are approachable but never becoming "friends" with them. Report any concerns to the management team.

  • Capture Media for social media: As directed by management, take photos or videos of lessons, activities, and excursions using British Summer School devices for social media purposes.

  • Set-Up and Pack-Up: Assist with setting up and packing up for camp activities, as well as any other tasks as needed.

  • Know Emergency Procedures: Be familiar with the accident and emergency procedures for the centre.

  • Participate in Staff Meetings: Attend daily staff meetings, contribute to discussions, and help with decision-making.

  • Other Duties: Take on any other tasks as reasonably requested by the management team.

Qualifications

  • Studying sports coaching, teaching, arts, or drama degree is preferred.

  • First Aid qualifications are welcomed.

  •  NPLQ (Lifeguarding Qualifications) are welcomed.

  •  Previous experience working with children.

  •  Level 1 or higher qualification in sports, drama or art is desirable but not a pre-requisite.

KEY PURPOSE OF JOB:
To implement the coaching plan as agreed with the Activities Manager.  Ensuring sessions are well planned, risk assessed, engaging and fun.

Activities Manager

HOURS:
As directed by the Centre and Activities Manager

SALARY:
£512.73 per week + 12.07% Holiday Pay

Total weekly pay £574.62 (Including Holiday Pay)

Accommodation Deduction:

An accommodation deduction of £74.62 will deducted for those staff that are residential.
