Accountabilities

Safeguarding Lead: Take a leading role in putting BSS’s safeguarding and child protection policies into practice, ensuring that any issues or concerns involving children and young people are dealt with appropriately and effectively. Acting as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) at the centre, make sure all safeguarding concerns are properly recorded, followed up, and escalated to the appropriate person or organisation where necessary. Full training will be provided during induction to ensure the postholder is suitably prepared and confident in fulfilling these responsibilities.

Administrative Performance Management: Supervise the Centre Administrator with professionalism and clarity, maintaining consistent oversight of their performance and offering support, guidance where needed. Ensure that all administrative systems, including check-in, pocket money, and check-out procedures, run efficiently and effectively. Take overall responsibility for ensuring that BSS’s Data Protection are fully upheld and correctly implemented.

Welfare Performance Management: Provide effective and professional oversight of the Welfare Manager, offering regular evaluation, mentoring, and guidance to ensure that the care and welfare service operates to the highest standards. Safeguard the delivery of outstanding medical, welfare, and pastoral care that not only meets but strives to exceed the expectations of students, parents, and agents, who may have differing international perspectives of quality care. Ensure full compliance with BSS’s Welfare, Child Protection, and Health & Safety policies always.

Academic Performance Management: Provide strong, supportive, and professional leadership to the Director of Studies, ensuring their work is monitored effectively and that they receive guidance, feedback as needed. Oversee the standard of Teaching and Learning across the programme, ensuring it aligns with BSS’s marketing promises and consistently meets or exceeds British Council requirements.

Leisure & Social Programme Management: Lead and support the Activities Manager with professionalism and confidence, ensuring regular performance monitoring and constructive feedback. Offer direction to guarantee that the activities, sports, arts, drama, pro-options, and excursions are of exceptional quality. Ensure the BSS experience reflects BSS’s values and promotional.

Staff Management: Oversee and guide staff in a professional, supportive, and constructive manner, providing support, encouragement, and the tools they need to perform at their best and enhance the overall Summer School experience for students. Coordinate staff schedules, allocating shifts and time off in line with course requirements, respecting role-specific hours, and ensuring that no team member exceeds their contracted working hours.

Communication: Personally liaise with parents and agents regarding any notable incidents of unacceptable student behaviour, as well as any issues, disputes, or concerns involving their children or students. Provide timely and consistent updates on ongoing matters to ensure clear, professional, and efficient communication always, maintaining BSS’s reputation for excellence and transparency.

Cash Management: Responsible for overseeing all cash at the centre, including the centre budgets and students’ pocket money, ensuring secure, efficient, and confidential handling. Always maintain strict adherence to all cash handling policies and protocols.

Risk Assessments & Policies: Confirm that detailed risk assessments are in place and have been reviewed by all relevant staff. Where necessary, create or update assessments in collaboration with BSS’s health and safety coordinator to cover any new or unique activities. Ensure all lessons are conducted safely and in full compliance with BSS’s safety policies. Pay particular attention to supervision ratios, risk management, and the maintaining accurate registers.

Fire Safety: To make certain that all staff and students are aware of fire exit routes and assembly points, receive clear guidance on BSS’s fire policies shortly after arrival, and participate in weekly fire drills. This ensures full compliance with BSS’s Fire Safety policies and safeguards the wellbeing of everyone at the Centre.

Pastoral Support: Work with the Welfare team to share essential information and deliver consistent, high-quality welfare care. Monitor students’ well-being and behaviour, handling minor issues directly and escalating serious concerns to the Welfare Manager or Centre Manager.

Medication Administration: in the absence of the Welfare Manager, Dispense prescribed and over the counter medication in line with BSS policies and medical guidance, maintaining clear, accurate and timely records on the database.

Student Behaviour Management: Observe and manage student conduct, responding immediately to any bullying or aggressive behaviour. Promote a safe and inclusive community in which every student can feel confident, respected, and free to express themselves regardless of their background or beliefs.

Host School Management: To ensure all relevant host school departments, Lettings, Catering, Domestic, Facilities, receive the information required to fulfil their contractual duties with BSS efficiently, while sustaining a strong, positive relationships with all host school stakeholders. This approach aims to preserve and, where possible, enhance their ongoing and future support for BSS.

British Council: To ensure that every aspect of the Teaching and Learning criteria established by the British Council is consistently met, and wherever possible, exceeded through careful monitoring, guidance, and quality assurance. This helps the organisation uphold its strong academic reputation, demonstrate excellence across all areas of delivery, and secure continued accreditation with confidence.

Emergencies: Respond to any emergencies that may occur during non-working hours in the Boarding House, taking appropriate action to ensure the safety of all students and staff.

Transfers: Manage and coordinate all student arrivals and departures to deliver a reliable and professional transfer service. Ensure every student is greeted promptly upon arrival and assisted efficiently for timely check-in on departure. Assign appropriate staff and organise transport for all transfers, guaranteeing smooth and well-managed journeys.

Social Media Photography & Video: Delegate a member of staff to be responsible for capturing high-quality footage of lessons, activities, evening entertainment, and excursions using British Summer School recording devices.

Centre Requirements: To help ensure that the centre is set up effectively and packed away as required by the Head Office team.

JOB ROLE:
Centre Manager

KEY PURPOSE OF JOB:
To ensure that BSS achieves its goal of providing a first-class summer school. Oversee and manage all aspects of the centre you have been placed at, Including, Welfare, Safeguarding, Academic, Leisure Host School, Parent and Agent Liaison.

REPORTING TO:
Managing Director & Operations Manager

HOURS:
Morning Shift: 08:00 - 18:00 Afternoon Shift: 13:00 - 23:00

The above shows the typical working hours. Staff will be scheduled across both weekdays and weekends. Weekend shifts may be longer to support check ins/ outs or transfers.

Hours may vary between centres and according to the needs of the Summer School.

SALARY:
£1048.11 per week + 12.07% Holiday Pay Total weekly pay £1174.62 (Including Holiday Pay)

Accommodation Deduction: An accommodation deduction of £74.62 will deducted for those staff that are residential.
